Quotations are hereby invited for the appointment of an external Environmental Control Officer (ECO) for SARAO construction project located in the Northern Cape. The ECO will be responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and verifying compliance with the EMPR by the contractor. In particular, the ECO shall: (i) monitor all activities on site; (ii) Visit/inspect the site regularly, to ascertain the level of compliance of works; (iii) Assist the Resident Engineer (RE) in ensuring that necessary environmental authorisations and permits have been obtained; (iv) Review and approve construction Method Statements together with the RE; (v) Assist the Contractor in finding environmentally responsible solutions to known and unknown issues that may arise during the entire life cycle of the project; (vi) Provide materials/manuals and assistance for the environmental awareness courses; (vii) Maintain a photographic record of the site before, during and after construction; (viii) Ensure that activities on site comply with legislation of relevance to the environment; (ix) Keep record of all activities on site, problems identified, transgressions noted and a task schedule of tasks undertaken by the ECO; (x) Undertaking monthly audit/inspections and compiling quarterly and annual audit reports to be submitted to both NRF SARAO and he Department of Environmental Affairs Forestry and Fisheries (DFFE); (xi) Submit an environmental audit report to the DFFE within 30 days of completion of the construction phase and a final environmental audit report within 30 days of completion of rehabilitation activities.
